Camrose, AB – Two pilot projects, expected to be up and running this fall, will be coming to the Camrose region. Albertans in the Camrose region will now have better access to public transportation thanks to a new provincial pilot program.
Over a two year period, the City of Camrose will be receiving more than $450,000 to establish a regular bus shuttle service between Camrose and Edmonton and more than $137,000 to implement a ride-sharing service between rural communities around Camrose.
The Rural Transportation Pilot Program provides operational funding to support public transportation pilot programs in rural Alberta. The projects will provide new options to fill transportation service gaps between communities where there is no existing provider.
The Regional Shuttle Service will be provided by Red Arrow and allow residents the opportunity for regularly scheduled transit between Camrose and Edmonton. This shuttle service will operate 5 days a week, Monday through Friday and will be designed to focus on transit hub and medical locations in both Camrose and Edmonton.
Other regions that received program approval included Grande Prairie County for $640,000 to connect rural communities to the existing Grande Prairie transit and the Town of Spirit River for $200,000 to expand existing transportation services.
