Norman Mayer is a very familiar face on Camrose City Council, having served as an Alderman from 1977 to 1986 and as the Mayor from 1989 to 2004 with a further term from 2013 to 2017. Before, during and after his previous terms on Council, Norm has been involved in many youth, business, social and service organizations in Camrose and the surrounding area. Over the years Norm has been recognized for his service and contributions to the people of the province of Alberta by receiving the 2005 Alberta Centennial Medal, the Golden Jubilee Medal in 2012, and the AUMA Distinguished Service Award in 2017.
In 1963 Norm and Betty, with their young sons Bruce and James, moved to Camrose to start their own business offering insurance and real estate services. At present, three generations including Norm, Betty, James and grandson, Matthew, are still very much involved in this family business and proudly celebrated the 54th anniversary of Central Agencies in the fall of 2017.
Norm's philosophy in business is comparable to his philosophy in politics. Customer service is paramount. This legacy of service is evident in Norm's long-time involvement with Camrose residents, clients, employees, and business associates.
